PrintMOUNTAIN GROVE — A Wyoming-based company is considering building a plant in southwest Missouri that would process horse meat for human consumption.
Unified Equine is conducting a feasibility study on a plan to build a plant just east of Mountain Grove near the Wright-Texas county line.
Unified Equine is a company created by Wyoming state legislator Sue Wallis last November after Congress approved a bill allowing the U.S. Department of Agriculture to begin inspections for horse meat and plants.
Wallis told KY3-TV she is confident the plant will open, perhaps this year.
Supporters said the plant would bring jobs and put suffering or neglected horses out of their misery.
Critics said they can't stomach the idea of horses being processed for meat.

I believe this is part of our vacationer in chief's idea of "horse and change"!!!!!!!!
Sounds horrible to a lot of people but think of the news reports that have shown starving and neglected animals.
I have had it once when I was overseas; did not ask for it or know what it was at first. It was okay. I have no desire to eat it again simply because I still remember my horses when growing up.
I think it is a better alternative than letting them starve and they cannot live forever; The wild horses will keep doing what is natural to all creatures including we humans; Reproduce!!
