George McGovern, peace activist and former Democratic senator, dies at 90

A family spokesman said, McGovern, the Democrat who lost to President Richard Nixon in a 1972 historic landslide, has died at the age of 90. According to the spokesman, McGovern died Sunday at a hospice in Sioux Falls, surrounded by family and friends.

A liberal who had argued fervently against Vietnam War as a Democratic senator from South Dakota and three-time candidate for president, George McGovern died Sunday. He was 90.
