A Columbia man was arrested Thursday in connection with a June shooting near Eighth Street and Wilkes Boulevard.

Sylvester Lee Franklin, 33, was booked under charges of first-degree assault with injury, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon, according to the probable cause statement. His bail is set at $150,000.

A bystander, 66, was grazed by a bullet in the 700 block of Wilkes Boulevard during the incident, according to the probable cause statement.

The victim told authorities that a blue hatchback vehicle fled the area. Deputies located a car that matched the victims' description nearby, parked outside the owner's residence.

Deputies questioned the owner, who said the shooting happened after he confronted the suspect about clothing he allegedly stole. The vehicle owner said shots were fired at his car as he drove away. Damages to the vehicle included what appeared to be bullet holes in the front windshield, through a rear passenger window, through the truck door and through a taillight, according to the probable cause statement.
