Chim’s Thai Kitchen is giving a full-scale bricks-and-mortar restaurant in Columbia another go, with a grand opening set for Thursday morning and a new menu of traditional Thai food.

Pantipa “Boo” Wadtananussorn, the daughter of Pramuan “Big Mama Chim” Duncan, is busy preparing the new kitchen at 904 E. Broadway, which most recently housed Thip Thai Cuisine. It will debut at 9:09 a.m. Thursday, with regular business hours initially set for 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Sunday.

The new menu will have a lot more variety, such as salads, stir-fry and grilled offerings.

“It will be more of a homestyle food because it’s from different parts of Thailand,” Wadtananussorn said. ... “A lot of other Thai places won’t have it.”

Chim’s other, smaller branch, Big Mama Chim’s Noodle House in Alley A, will still be operating with the existing menu. However, the longtime food trailer at Cooper’s Landing might not be open this season because of the delayed operations at the popular river destination after the recent flooding.

Chim’s has attempted two other locations in Columbia in the past, on Peachtree Drive and at 201 N. Tenth St., where Boss Taco now is located.
