Columbia broke its daily rainfall record Saturday when the National Weather Service recorded 1.74 inches of rain.

The record for June 22 rainfall, previously set in 1969 at 1.72 inches, comes as Missouri continues to fight effects of flooding and tornadoes that battered the state over the last few months.

So far, Columbia has seen at least 2 inches more than the usual amount for June — 5.41 inches compared to 3.30 inches.
