COLUMBIA — Last weekend at the Polar Plunge, 376 brave winter dippers raised $78,223 to benefit Special Olympics Missouri.
The eighth annual plunge was held Saturday at Bass Pro Lake.
The top individual fundraiser was Jackie Swank, who collected $2,113, and the top group was the BoCoMo Grizzlies with $9,450, according to a news release from the Special Olympics organization.
In addition, the BoCoMo Grizzlies had the largest team, with 38 plungers.
Other top fundraisers included MU fraternity Pi Kappa Alpha with $5,000, Jefferson City High School StuCo with $3,326 and the Columbia Police Officers' Association with $477.
Still shy $1,777 of the $80,000 goal, the organization is continuing to accept donations online.
Columbia ranks No. 5 in total funds raised out of 14 plunges held throughout Missouri so far this year.
