Excavation begins at the Lamine River on Wednesday in renewed search for Mengqi Ji

An excavator removes debris this week at the De Bourgmont Access point on the Lamine River. Columbia Crime Scene investigators worked nearly all day Wednesday to remove debris and search for the body of Mengqi Ji, who was reported missing Oct. 10, 2019. The search was concluded Oct. 1, but last week police discovered a portion of a levee that could be excavated. Police are making another push to look for the woman's remains in an area where human decomposition was found by detection dogs.
