A former MU student accused of rape is set to begin a new trial Tuesday after the first ended in a hung jury last year.

Austin Joseph Campbell was arrested for first-degree rape and burglary in 2016 after a woman reported to the MU Police Department that a man allegedly entered her residence hall room and raped her, according to previous Missourian reporting.

Campbell was a freshman at MU when he was arrested. He is no longer a student.

Campbell stood trial in November 2017, but the case was declared a mistrial after jurors deliberated for a total of 11 hours and couldn't come to a unanimous decision.
