U.S. Rep. Vicky Hartzler, R-Harrisonville, is lobbying for six more counties in her 4th District to be added to President Donald Trump's disaster declaration for Missouri.

Hartzler wants the president to include Barton, Cooper, Dallas, Hickory, Howard and Laclede counties. If Trump does so, residents in those counties would be eligible for various types of disaster assistance.

"I visited several of these counties last month and saw the impact of flooding, severe storms and tornadoes firsthand," Hartzler said. "I am hopeful that FEMA will include these areas as it continues to assess Missouri counties affected by flooding, and I am strongly advocating for their inclusion.”

The president made federal funding available for 20 Missouri counties that were affected by severe storms and flooding. Boone County was included in the president's declaration.

"Representative Hartzler sent a letter to President Donald Trump and FEMA’s acting administrator on July 16, ensuring FEMA completes thorough reviews of the counties not initially selected to receive individual assistance," a news release from Hartzler's office said.
