Columbia and Boone County residents have until Wednesday, Oct. 11 to register to vote for the upcoming Nov. 7 election.
People can check their registration status at www.govotemissouri.com. People who are not yet registered can to print out a form and mail it in, request a form be mailed to them or locate the local election authority where they can register in person.
For Boone County residents, the in-person registration location is the Boone County Clerk's Office, 801 E. Walnut St., Room 236. In order to register, you must be a U.S. citizen, a Missouri resident and 18 years old by the day of the election. People with questions can call 1-800-669-8683.
Missouri's new voter ID law requires voters without a government issued photo ID to show a secondary form of ID and sign a statement confirming their identity.
A list of acceptable forms of identification can be found on the Secretary of State's website, and people without a photo ID can request one for free.
Two propositions are on the Nov. 7 ballot, both of which are related to use taxes. County of Boone Proposition U and City of Columbia Proposition 1 both ask voters to vote on approving a local use tax.
Use taxes are self-reported taxes on purchases of goods from out-of-state vendors. Purchases totaling $2,000 or more per year would have to be reported. If approved, the use tax would be raised or reduced at the same rate of the local sales tax.
If you are registered, you can view a sample ballot or request an absentee ballot at the Boone County website's election calendar.
