A 23-year-old man died after being shot in the lower back Wednesday afternoon.

Louis L. Green Jr. was shot shortly after 3 p.m. outside an apartment building in the 700 block of Demaret Drive. Boone County Sheriff's Deputies found Green alive, lying in the foyer of the four-unit building, Detective Tom O'Sullivan said in a news release. Green was pronounced dead at University Hospital shortly after 4 p.m.

There is no suspect, O'Sullivan said in an interview, and police were in the preliminary stages of a homicide investigation. Anyone with information about the shooting can call 875-TIPS.
