On Monday, the city of Columbia will commemorate Memorial Day with its annual parade presented by Salute to the Armed Forces.

“The Memorial Day parade is such an important event to honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country,” said Megan McConachie, strategic communications manager for the Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau.

“Especially with the tragic events this week in Jefferson City, we’re ready to welcome those who wish to spend this day of remembrance by attending the parade here in Columbia.”

The parade will start at 10 a.m. with participants meeting at Stephens College campus near Broadway and Dorsey Street. The route will head west on Broadway, south on Fifth Street and disband on Locust Street.

There will be no ceremony after the parade.

Roads along the route will close by 9:30 a.m.

The Salute to Veterans Airshow that was scheduled to take place in Jefferson City this weekend has been cancelled because of recent flooding and Wednesday’s tornado. The Salute to Veterans Memorial Day Parade in Jefferson City has also been cancelled.
