Portions of Eighth Street downtown will be closed Wednesday night and Thursday morning for water valve repairs, and water service will be shut off overnight for certain customers in the area, according to a news release from Columbia Water and Light.

Columbia Water and Light will excavate parts of Eighth Street between Broadway and Cherry Street starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, and the closure will extend from Broadway to the alley, according to the release. Broadway will stay open with lane restrictions, and Eighth Street is scheduled to reopen by noon Thursday.

Water will be off in the area between 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and approximately 5 a.m. Thursday, or until repairs are finished, and a boil advisory will follow. Those under the advisory will receive hangtags with more information.

The city advised drivers and pedestrians to find alternate routes during the closure.
