A U.S. Marshals task force recovered a missing Boone County child Wednesday in Murphy, North Carolina.

Witnesses saw the child's mother, Jillanne Pagano, 25, of Rocheport, walking out of a residence with her child, according to a U.S. Marshals Service news release.

Police charged Pagano with child abduction in May 2018. The child's father was granted full custody in December 2016.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol, Division of Drug and Crime Control contacted the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in April 2019 for assistance with the case.

They spent the next six weeks interviewing witnesses, sending investigative requests and following up on leads, according to the news release. They determined that Pagano had left the state with the child.

After Pagano was located in North Carolina, she was taken into custody and is currently being held in the Cherokee County Detention Center. Her bond is set at $150,000, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office inmate directory.

Trial information has not been released.
