A Columbia man was arrested Thursday after a short standoff with the Columbia Police Department's SWAT Team.

Dalton Dostoglou, 27, was a parole absconder, according to a news release from the department. He is also a suspect in recent thefts, including one from a local business around 3 p.m. Wednesday, according to the release.

Columbia Police officers first tried to apprehend Dostoglou at the Super 8 hotel in the 5700 block of Freedom Drive, but Dostoglou fled out of a second story window.

The police then used a K-9 unit to track Dostoglou. They received information that he was in a residence in the 700 block of Demaret Drive.

Officers confirmed Dostoglou was inside the residence armed with a handgun, according to the release. All the other occupants were asked to leave the building.

After Dostoglou refused to leave after multiple requests, the SWAT Team arrived, breached the front door and arrested him on the outstanding parole absconder warrant.

Dostoglou was under the influence of a controlled substance and was transported to a local hospital, according to the release.
