Across the country and around the world, civilians and military personnel paused to honor the millions of American soldiers, airmen, sailors, Marines and Coast Guard service members who died serving their country in various conflicts dating back to the Civil War.

Tributes to fallen U.S. soldiers took place in Washington D.C., Texas, at an artificial reef off the coast of Florida and even in places as far away as the Philippines, among many other places.

This gallery shows some of the ways both the military and civilians pay respect to the servicemen and women who lost their lives in the line of duty, including through flowers, parades, cemetery visits and flag ceremonies.
