JEFFERSON CITY — A proposal that would provide a tax credit for low- to moderate-income families provides a “fiscally responsible and meaningful way” to offer tax relief to working Missourians, state Sen. Caleb Rowden, R-Columbia, said Tuesday.

“Missouri has been exploring the creation of a state (Earned Income Tax Credit) for more than a decade,” Rowden said at a Senate Ways and Means Committee hearing Tuesday. Proposals to enact this type of state tax credit have appeared in the Missouri House and Senate on multiple occasions without success. The committee heard a bill from Sen. Andrew Koenig, R-Manchester, earlier this month, which also proposed a state Earned Income Tax Credit.
