She was born July 28, 1932, in St. Louis, the daughter of William and Pauline (Reese) Walker.
Glenn was a true people-person, and it was his great joy to sit and visit with family and the many friends he made.
In 1953 Shirley was Homecoming Queen of Fredonia Kansas High School. Shirley enjoyed dancing, gardening and writing.
"We lift these historical figures up, but we don't really talk about how difficult it was to be Black on that campus at that particular time," said a former campus leader.
He was chairman and founding father of Oganihu Umuelem Inc., a non-profit that helps to build schools in Nigeria.
Ridgel was a member of the original Concerned Student 1950, the first group of Black students admitted to MU.
Everett enjoyed working on his collections. He had bottle and key collections but most of all he was an avid coin collector.
As an administrator, he demonstrated the true meaning of collegiality, friends said.
