Doris Scheidt Hampton, 92, of Columbia passed away Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019, at her home in Columbia.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019, at Memorial Park Cemetery for family and friends.

Doris was born Oct. 15, 1926, in Jefferson City, the daughter of Erben John and Cornelia (Wiegle) Scheidt, who preceded her in death. She was married on Dec. 2, 1950, in Jefferson City to Edward Lee Hampton Jr., who preceded her in death on May 24, 2011.

Doris graduated from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish. She volunteered as a Cub Scout leader for several years. Doris served on the Board of Directors of the Southwest Swim Club as the secretary.

After raising her children, she worked for Columbia Public Schools in the main library for 25 years. Doris was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She enjoyed feeding and watching the birds and squirrels in her backyard.

Survivors include two children, Edward Hampton III (Barbara) of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and Mary Flowers of Columbia; three grandchildren, Travis Flowers, Kimberly Darby and Justin Hampton; and one great-grandson, Cody Darby. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Richard Scheidt, and two sisters, Elaine Lehr and Virginia Schrimpf.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts of America-Great Rivers Council, c/o Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W.
