Mykesha R. Jackson, aka “Miyah,” 27, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019, in Columbia.
She was born Sept. 27, 1991, in Sikeston, Missouri, to Bonita Jackson-Simmons and Michael Sales.
Mykesha graduated in 2010 from Sikeston High School, where she participated in several activities. She was a member of FBLA, Missouri Girls State, the National Honor Society, the Speech and Debate Club, the Link Crew, the Key Club, the student council and the Foreign Language Club. She also participated in track and field.
Mykesha graduated from Drury University in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in communications. She received her master’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in December 2018.
She was a business academic adviser at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Mykesha was a strong believer in the truth, and her faith remained with YAH.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her stepfather, Jerry L. Simmons Sr.; four brothers, Zachariah Jackson and Levi Simmons of Sikeston, Ladwan (Christina) Jones of Kennett and Damian (Raven) Cole of Blytheville, Arkansas; one niece, Za’Miya Jackson of Howardville; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.
Services are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, at the Life Church, 951 S. Kingshighway in Sikeston. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. until time of service at noon. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
