Patsy Dawn Amos Danner, “Pat,” passed away peacefully July 12, 2019, at her daughter’s home in Columbia. She was born on May 1, 1927, in New Martinsville, West Virginia, to Walter William and Myrtle Josephine Amos (née Ellis). Pat grew up in New Matamoras and Marietta, Ohio, and graduated from Marietta High School.
She studied biology, earning a Bachelor of Science from Bryn Mawr College and a Master of Science from Oberlin College.
Pat married physicist Horace Redington Danner, “Dan,” on Aug. 6, 1950. They lived in State College, Pennsylvania; Mol, Belgium; and Long Island, New York, before settling in Columbia.
Pat and Dan adopted their children, Terence, “Tad”; Deborah “Debbie”; and Rebecca, and raised them in a loving home.
Pat taught basic education to students seeking their GED, followed by science at Douglass High School (formerly the Secondary Learning Center) from 1978 to 1993. Pat inspired her students, children and grandchildren to be service-minded and love learning.
Pat was an active member of the Columbia-Boone County League of Women Voters.
Pat was passionate about peace and women’s rights and took every opportunity to vote. Pat was never afraid to speak her mind and taught her daughters and granddaughters to do the same.
Pat was a beloved member of Fairview Road Church of Christ, loved to sing and loved God’s creation. She kept a beautiful flower garden and cared for all animals, including birds, squirrels and raccoons.
Pat was loved by many canine companions, notably the late Frosty and Madonna, who survives.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Walter William Amos Jr.; husband, Dan; and daughter Debbie.
Pat is survived by her son, Tad Danner (Melissa) of Roswell, Georgia; daughter Rebecca Scott (Jeff Johnson) of Columbia; grandchildren Blake Danner (Chelsea) of Columbia, Andrew Danner (Cory) of Kingsland, Georgia, Allison Tucker (Josh) of Rome, Georgia, Amy Scott of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Steven Scott of Columbia; and great-grandchildren Willa and Audrey Danner of Kingsland, Luke and Bryson Tucker of Rome, Dylan and William Danner of Columbia, and a great-grandson on the way. Pat will be missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at Fairview Road Church of Christ in Columbia.
