Former Missouri wrestler Ben Askren went into his UFC 239 fight against Jorge Masvidal on Saturday with a 19-0 record in professional MMA.
Five seconds later, that record fell to 19-1.
Masvidal hit Askren with a flying knee immediately after the match started, knocking him out in a UFC-record five seconds. Askren, who for years remained unsigned by the UFC because of a highly-publicized rivalry with president Dana White, is now 1-1 in the promotion after he beat Robbie Lawler in his first fight with the company on March 2.
Barnett shines in Spurs win over Hornets
Former Missouri men’s basketball guard Jordan Barnett scored 12 points and grabbed four rebounds off the bench for the San Antonio Spurs in the team’s 106-96 win over the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday.
Barnett shot 62.5% from the field, was 1-for-3 from 3-point range and had a game-high plus-minus of 20.
Former Tiger Kassius Robertson is on the Hornets’ Summer League roster, but he did not see the floor against the Spurs.
