The No. 11 Missouri gymnastics team dropped a close meet against Florida in its Southeastern Conference opener Friday night in Gainesville, Florida, by a final score of 197.300-196.450.

Despite a team-best 49.000 on vault, Missouri trailed in the meet for its majority.

The Tigers’ only lead came after they began with solid performances on bars by senior Madeleine Huber and redshirt junior Morgan Porter, both scoring 9.850. Sophomore Chelsey Christensen scored her career-high on bars with a clean 9.800.

In Missouri’s highlight category of the night, senior Britney Ward and junior Aspen Tucker both nailed 9.800 in vault, while freshman Hannah McCrary posted a 9.875 on a near-perfect Yurchenko 1.5 maneuver.

Tucker scored a team-high 9.875 during floor routines, and junior Mary Nicholson stuck a landing after nailing a triple series for a career-high on beam with a 9.875.

The Tigers (3-1, 0-1 SEC) will be tested in their next conference meet against No. 14 Auburn on Jan. 19 at Mizzou Arena.
