Mizzou Esports received a $130,000 gift from an anonymous donor Wednesday, according to a tweet by general manager Kevin Reape.

“It is a massive way to kickstart the program,” Reape said. He has been head coach for the program since it was formed in December 2018.

This is one of the first significant donations that Mizzou Esports has received.

The money will be used to help with the facility, offer scholarships for players and cover travel expenses to tournaments around the country, Reape said.

“The donation came from an individual who we’ve been working with for the last few months to determine what the donation will be utilized for,” Reape said.

Though the donor did not want to reveal  his or her identity, he or she has  a passion for esports and sees Mizzou Esports as the future leader in collegiate esports, Reape said.
