Babu Valliyodan, an assistant professor of molecular biology and genomics, researches the different breeds and genes of industrial hemp plants to produce industrial hemp fitting and efficient for Missouri soil. Hemp has a stigma around it because of its relation to marijuana, Valliyodan said, but has no psychoactive qualities. According to Valliyodan, industrial hemp has many uses and is comparable to soybeans and corn. Valliyodan said he is going to teach farmers about the genetics and benefits of industrial hemp at the Missouri Hemp Conference on July 30.
