Cartoonist and MU alumnus Mort Walker died Saturday at age 94. For nearly 70 years, Walker created cartoons for his most notable comic strip, "Beetle Bailey," whose title character quits college to enlist in the U.S. Army. Walker's early strips are reminiscent of his college experience at MU, featuring in the background a number of MU's prominent landmarks including the Memorial Student Union and the Shack. MU heralds Walker with a recreation of the Shack in the MU Student Center and a life-sized bronze statue of Beetle Bailey in front of the Reynolds Alumni Center. The following is a collection of images from issues of the Missourian over the years, from comic strips Walker drew to photography of Walker on a few of the occasions he visited the university.
